Hello,
With the engine light being on you will need to have codes pulled. If you can take it buy your local auto parts store and have them pull codes and post them here.
It sounds like your tranny is in Limp Mode. And that could either be a sensor, the Transmission Control Module or and internal problem.
The over heating could be that the fans are not coming on to cool engine, a bad radiator, or a bad thermostat.
It could also be a few other things, so if possible get the codes read for better diagostic.
