Water pump replacement

Our van has a 3.0 liter and the water pump went out. We were told by the parts store not to mess with it, but were wondering if we can fix it ourselves instead of taking it to the shop. The parts store said that the timing belt runs off the water pump and that since the pump went out the timing will be messed up.

Its not an easy job to do if you dont have the experience and the correct info
it will damage the engine
i would suggest changing timing belt too
