I can start the car. It shifts into gear. But when I press on the accelerator it feels like the brakes are entirely locked up. I can depress the pedal and it feels normal. I can put the transmission in drive or reverse and it feels and sounds normal. When I press the accelerator the car torques like the brakes are on and the car is revving. I heard a single "clank" when the car started - it sounded like it came from the front of the car - engine compartment.

The hood latch inside the car won't pop the hood either, any thoughts?

Jack up and support the vehicle and be sure the rear wheels spin freely. Then try the same with the fronts with the engine off and trans in neutral. If it all spins, but wont move with the engine running the trans is probably broken internally. To get the hood open you may have to go from underneath the front with a long pick and manually release the latch, if the cable is broken.
