when i turn key the van does not start /there is no sound at all. i just replaced the starter 3 weeks ago, so that isn't the problem. checked the fuses, battery power and connections and all are ok. when i turned the key in the ignition and went underneath to see if the starter was receiving power, it cranked when i touched the connection with a voltmeter and grounded it. does this mean that the ground is no good? i checked the mounting bolts and they were tight, however when i tried to re-tighten the ground wire to the starter connection, i noticed that the little bolt might be stripped. could this be the problem? what about the starter relay? the chilton manual that i have describes how to troubleshoot it but it doesn't show where it is. any help will be much appreciated, thanks.

Check for 12 volts at the small wire on the starter with key in crank position. If it has power then the starter needs to be replaced. If none, then get back to me and we will figure out where it stops. Also repair the ground, it needs to be tight for the system to work properly

I have the same problem with my 1993 Dodge (128K miles). It's in garage now (face in) - doesn't jump, doesn't crank, no starter. I had AAA come on 3 different occassions and they did something as you described (pushing on a cable to get it started). I'd like a more permanent and reliable solution. Love the vehicle, but am always uncertain about where I'll be stranded and for how long due to this.

I'm looking forward to what you find out.

Where are the "plug" and "neutral start switch" located that you're referring to? I want to get as much and as clear information as I can to go to my auto tech.
