I bought a used Dodge Caliber about six months ago. I love the car. However, its MPG has dropped a lot lately. I was getting a combined city/highway MPG between 23.5 and 25.5. Now, I'm getting less than 20 MPG.
I took the car to the dealership for an inspection, and the mechanics said everything seemed fine.

What could the problem be? The car seems to run fine, although it now idles roughly when stopped at a light [Again, the Dodge mechanics said they heard the rattle but couldn't pin point the cause].

Thanks,
Marc

The most common cause of a decrease in MPG is an O2 sensor. One may be going bad but is still within spec and hasn't set the computer. As far as the rattle, could it have been coming from the catylatic converter? If the insides got loose, that could also cause a problem with MPG.

Let me know.
