2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser engine revs up wont idle down

This is typical of a vacuum leak. Look for vacuum hoses that are disconnected or cracked. I recently saw a 1" section of intake manifold gasket missing on a 1990 Caravan 3.3L that caused it to cruise at 35 mph without touching the gas pedal.

When the engine is still cold, use a squirt bottle to spray water around gaskets and hoses. When you find the leak, the water will get sucked in harmlessly and engine speed will come down.
