2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser Repair Question

2002 PT Cruiser
While driving, the vehicle seemed to go out of gear and made a high pitched whining sound with the rpm's reving up. Goes in reverse, but not forward. Any ideas?

Sounds like the trans has gone out.The high pitch noise is probably the front pump whining.
