2002 Chrysler Concorde Front Wheel Drive Automatic 128300 miles

When I drive my car any speed over 40 mph once I hit the brakes, it feels like the car is taking a long time to come to a stop. When I mash the brakes at about 25-20 mph the car jerks. It will stop, but when I hit the gas to drive again the RPM goes up to 3 and the car sounds like its in high gear. I'm afraid that it might blow up or something if I pressed the gas too hard, especially with it being in high gear. I pull over and restart the car and it seems to do the trick momentarily, the car rides normally until I get up to some speed and have to hit the brakes again. I got the spark plugs and wires replaced today, but still having this problem. It has to be something else wrong! The service engine soon light is on also! Please help!!!!
