Brakes problem
1999 Chrysler Cirrus 135000 miles

One of my calipers seized and ground down my left rear brake rotor. Mechanics are quoting $1100 for replacement of a valve and the caliper it controls, both rear rotors and brake pads. Is this reasonable? Thanks!

Seems rather high without knowing all the details. A seized caliper can usually just be replaced by itself although most shops will want to replace both calipers on the same axle. Without checking, I would guess two rotors, two calipers, and a set of high quality brake pads would cost less than $300.00. You'll need to provide more information to get a better opinion of the repair cost. What kind of valve are they talking about?

If the brake fluid is contaminated with petroleum product, ALL rubber parts must be replaced and all steel lines must be flushed and dried. This is about the only repair that could cost $1100.00. As the rubber parts expand and get mushy, they block off fluid paths and will prevent fluid from returning back to the master cylinder. This will keep one caliper applied. It only affects one because the problem is so severe, you have to get it fixed before the contamination has time to affect a second or third wheel.
