2001 Chrysler 300 Accelerates on its own
Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Chrysler 300 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 89000 miles
Ok, so I got in the car to come home tonight and when I went to crank the car I heard a pop or a bang, car still cranked, and then I smelled smoke form inside the car. I got home safely, however whenever I would come to a stop at a stoplight or stop sign the car would feel like it would stall, but didn't. When I got to my apartment complex, I stopped for the gate to open and I noticed that as I had my foot off the brake and was idling, the car would accelerate on its own. I only let it go up to 15 MPH as I was in a residential area, but still was wierd! Please help with any suggestions or ideas on what it could be and how expensive it usually is to fix. Thanks!

It sounds like a throttle position sensor has gone bad. Has the check engine light come on?
