I have a '95 Chevy C1500 Pickup. It began to get hard to get into low and reverse gear, made a grinding noise. Found wear at the clutch pedal likage to master cylinder, so I replaced both master and slave cylinder. Problem got substanially worse so I removed clutch and found wore out clutch fork and piviot ball. Replaced clutch assy, fork, and piviot ball. Put all back together and still grinds. Only getting 5/8" travel at clutch slave cylinder. GM spec is at minium an inch of travel.

I have tried to bench bleed the master and slave cylinder, bleed by pumping pedal and opening bleeder screw, removing actuator from transmission and compressing the actuator to force air up through master cylinder, but cannot get any more than 5/8 stroke. The pedal does not have a normal feel as well. Is there some special/better way to bleed the system?

Hello,

This sounds like the clutch disc is bent or falling apart. I would remove the clutch for inspection and then replace it here is a video of the job being done on a similar model.

When I try to put into reverse gear. It makes a "grinding noise" and continues to make that sound. Then When I try to put it into 1st gear, sometimes the shift knob doesn't go in at all or it needs to be jammed extremely hard (and I dont think it should be that way). But after I turn the car off, it seems to go into all the gears very smoothly. Please HELP!

Hey, I am not a mechanic nor am I a mechanical genious but I did have a similar problem with my 95 cavy. This might help or it might not. My car did the same kind of thing. I replaced the clutch and still had the same problem. I then took off the center console and looked at the shift assembly, which was partially broken. I replaced the shift assembly and this fixed the problem. You can purchase a new one from a dealer but they are gonna want about 300 bucks for it, I went to a junk yard and got one for seven dollars. Might be worth a shot.I would suggest taking off the center console and looking at the shift assembly to see if everything is good there. Hope this helps you and good luck!
