Battery keeps getting drained. Bought new one after re-charging old one. It dies as it sits in driveway without driving which is why I don't think it's alternator. Thought of taking alternator to test anyway. Is it as easy as it looks to dismount and replace if I had too. How can I tell if something is draining battery, before I hand it over to mechanic. Car is low mileage in good shape.

Alternator can be tested on vehicle, most local auto part stores will actually test it for free. Have it tested and if its good then check for electrical draws such as small lights staying on (i.E. Glove compartment lights, vanity mirror lights etc.)
