Chevy 99 chevy jerks when coming to a stop

1999 Chevy Tahoe V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 100k miles
99 chevy tahoe...when coming to a stop, the vehicle jerks once...makes a "clunk" noise...lifted the vehicle on a hoist and found play in the left rear shock....also found more "up and down" play in the left leaf springs than in the right leaf springs...feels like its coming from the back of the vehicle...replaced shocks but problem is stilll there...has anyone encountrered this problem??
