There is a leak from the back end of my vehicle. My father-in-law says it may be the rear seal. How can I confirm this and how do I fix it without taking it in?

The rear main seal is not hard to change and removal of the oil pan on these engines is not necessary. However it is hard to access. You must remove the transmission for this repair.
To determine if the rear seal is leaking, you can remove the peep hole plug on the bell housing (there are three of them) and to see where the leak is coming from.
