I have a 1995 Chevy Suburban 1/2 ton with the 350 and 237,000 miles. This has been a great truck with normal maintainance issues until now. First the speedometer and tachometer and gear indicator light would loose power and go to zero and come back on. Then after a few days, when I would start the truck with the key, the tachometer, speedometer and gear selector indicator would be dead. When put in drive the transmission would stay in drive and not shift down automatically. But it will shift if I do it manually it will go through the gears up to drive, no overdrive and no lockup torque converter.
Now for the curve ball, I have a remote starter installed and have had for most of the life of the truck. If I use the remote to start the truck most of the time it will work fine everything operates just fine, however not all the time. When I start it with the remote everything always works but when I step on the break to shift and the remote system shuts down, sometimes the problems start and other times they don’t. If the problems hit when I use the remote, most of the time I need to shut every thing off, even the head lights, and try again and it will work. Sometimes I have had to do this as many as 10 times for it to work right. I have checked the grounds that I can find to no avail. I really can't afford a new truck or a big repair bill so any help will be appreciated.
One side note, the ABS light had started to come on occasionally. I had the front left speed sensor replaced last year and just assumed that the other one had gone out. But ever since I have been using the remote I have had no ABS light, I have not tested it to see if it really works but the snow is coming.

What usually happens with aftermarket installs is that they use "scotch-loks" those blue things that clamp on the wire to tap into it. They break the wire, causing poor connections one one side or sometimes both of the connector. Try removing all scotch-loks and connect the wires together properly and see if things begin to work.
