I HAVE A 1997 CHEVROLET HD3500. WHEN YOU START THE TRUCK YOU HAVE TO CRANK AND STOP AND CRANK AGAIN ABOUT 4 TIMES BEFORE TRUCK WILL ACTUALLY START. THE TRUCK THEN RUNS FINE. TRUCK HAS NEW FUEL PUMP AND FILTER AND COMPLETE TUNE UP. NONE OF WHICH HAS IMPROVED OR WORSEND THE PROBLEM.

What was the fuel pressure for the new fuel pump after it was installed. Did you check it? Sounds like there's a problem with the coolant temperature sensor not demanding fuel from the computer during initial cold starts. Could also be the fuel pump/oil pressure switch not closing to power the fuel pump after the fuel pump relay deenergize-
