Scan for codes and check fuel pressure as well as vacuum leaks auto parts scans for free and rent gauge. if hoses are soft for vacuum replace them.

and

When I put a load on and take it to 2,500 to 3,000 rpm's and let shift the engine bogs out and barely has enough power to move at 25 mph. Engine will completely shut off at this point if I open the throttle too far. This whole problem resolves itself if I park the truck and turn off for about ten to fifteen minutes.

Good afternoon,

This could be a couple of things.

Low fuel pressure from a weak fuel pump. The pressure needs to be checked.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

It could also be a clogged catalytic converter. The back pressure needs to be checked to confirm.

She has low fuel pressure and I don't know why cause I replaced everything in the fuel system injectors, pump, sending unit, fuel filter, the injectors came with a pressure regulator. The injectors are the mpfi upgrade over the sfi ones

I dont recall a 4cyl in a silverado.Whatever it may be,you should check your fuel psi. If it's dropping off a lot under hard accelleration, you might have a bad fuel pump.

I replaced intake manifold and gaskets. When I put everything back together, the engine will not stay running. Has a hard start, doesn't seem to be getting enough fuel. Ran just fine before replacement of gaskets.

Try pouring a litle gas in the throtle body and see if it starts easy and runs for a moment. If it does try changing the fuel filter. On the driverside mounted to the frame right under the cab is the fuel filter. If that does not work change the fuel pump. Good luck.

The truck will start and run for about 2-4 seconds. Then the truck stops running. Fuel pressure stays at 50 psi. Has new plugs and wires and problem was there before all this was replaced. Also no codes present in the vcm.

It sounds like the security system is shutting it down. Is the light staying on or flashing? Have you tried a different key?

Engine cuts out when I give it the gas, it will cut out if its running and parked or driving and I hit the gas fast but will not if I give it gas slowly, has no power. I have replaced the fuel pump and fuel regulator, cleaned the injectors, new fuel filter. I had a obd scan done and it brought up one code only saying fuel cap was bad, I replaced cap, I have checked all lines and seam fine. I did have the distributer out when I replaced the intake gasket, could it be off a tooth as I did not check timing afterward but runs smooth otherwise. someone sugjested catiletic converter bad? any sugjestions? I'm at a loss. Any help would be great!! thanks

It sounds like either a bad vacuum leak, or the catylatic converter may be plugged. If you drive it at night, when you stop, let the engine run and look at the converter to see if it is glowing red hot. If it is, it's plugged. Also, use a timing light to make sure the timing it right. A tooth off can cause many problems.

Let me know what you find.

I have a 97 silverado that will start up fine and idle fine, but it seems as soon as it warms up the engine dies, i have recently replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump and I was wondering what else it could be?

Sounds like the Ignition Control module is shutting down when it gets hot. Common! Replace it. If you want to be absolutely sure, when it dies, try to restart it. If it doesn't start, check for spark. If no spark is present, that's it.

When you try to start it runs then shuts off. Shows a 1626 code, replaced the key tumbler and tried the ten minute relearn. Have purchased a stellar alarms bypass module, but the wiring diagram does not show the right color wires for my truck. Does this year even have a factory security system in it? it looks like someone had removed something because there are wires cut coming off of the ignition switch.

Cut wires are never a good thing. Sounds like it had an after market alarm/remote start or similar and they did not remove it correctly. That can always cause problems.
VATS started in late 1997. (does your truck have a security light?)

There was no bulb in the socket on the insterment cluster so I put one in it, I'm pretty sure the key has a transponder in it and the truck has the box by the ash tray that's supposed to be the BCM I believe. The other codes it put out are 0452, 0463, u1041. It will stay running if a constant supply of fuel is put through the air intake, and it has good fuel pressure at relief valve

VAT used the resistor in the key, 97 wouldn't have a transponder.

P0452 EVAP System Pressure Sensor/Switch Low (fuel tank pressure sender)
P0463 Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input
U1041 - Electronic Brake Control Module Missing Data

I would get a good wiring diagram and fix the wiring, then see what it does.

Engine Performance problem

When you are accelerating and idling it will lag and it seems to want to die. We have cleaned the carburator and put a new fuel filter and new spark plugs and wires in. Also put in fuel cleaner. Now we are just drawing a blank on what it could be. would you have any suggestions?

Are you sure this truck has a carburator? Is the engine stock? Did you change the distributor cap and rotor? How many miles on this truck?

What type of modifications did you do to the computer to put a carburator on this engine? In your PM you stated that you didn't change the "rotors". There is only one distributer "rotor". I do not mean the brake rotors--I mean the distributer rotor---and yes it will make a difference.
You say your engine has a carburator so I must take your word for it, and this rules out fuel injector problems--so--with 200000 miles on it; it's probably time to rebuild the carb. What type of carburator is on this engine? 4 barrel or 2 barrel? Is your fuel pump mechanical or electric?
Check the floats in the carb., they may be sticking. Varnish sometimes builds up and causes them to stick.
Check the spacer gasket between the carb. and the intake--it may be leaking.

Several days ago I was driving and my engine just stopped. I had been driving on the freeway for about 10 miles. When I tried to restart it, it would turn over but would not start. After a couple minutes it started up. I continued on and about 5 miles further, it died again. After a few minutes it started. The next morning I was on my way to work which is about 20 miles it stopped 4 times. I took it to a Chevy dealer. They would not drive it to duplicate it but let it run for a couple days when it finally died. They replace the fuel pump, some kind of harness in the fuel tank and a oil pump switch. I picked my truck up and it was fine that day. The following day it died again. I took it back to the dealer and they could not find anything else wrong.

Up until the first time it stalled, I did not have any problems. When the truck had about 65,000 miles on it, they replaced a fuel pump but at that time when the engine stopped, it would not restart after a few minuets.

The dealer is stumped. Is there something else I could have them check?
