1996 Chevy Silverado extended cranking before starting

1996 Chevy Silverado V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic 188000 miles
I have a chevy k2500 with a 454 motor. My problem is that it takes quite a bit of cranking before it will start. I have replaced the plugs, wires, rotor, cap and fuel filter but with no results. It still cranks for a long time before firing. It is a high mileage vehicle but well maintained.
