Hi, I was under my valve cover the other day and seen that someone had put gray silicone under the rocker arms on top of the valve springs. I was wondering why this would be? It's a diesel and could it be someone thought they were making it quieter? I have never heard of this type of thing before. If anyone has heard of this or knows why this is I would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

I'm not a diesel mechanic, but will tell you that the rockers will cut right through it. Why they did it, I can't say. Is it doing anything? I would say no.

Your right it tore the silicone to shreds. I was just wondering if there might have been some thing I was missing. I cleaned the silicone off anyway and am going to start it up without the valve cover when I get some new parts that I ordered. Then I will see If it did anything.

When you get into it, I would say check for adjustment. Maybe that is all it needs.

Let me know what you find.
