CHEVY BLAZER (UK RHD) 31K MILES - PARKING BRAKE

Hi there, I drive a '99 RHD Chevrolet Blazer with 31k miles on the clock which I've owned since new when I spotted it on the forecourt of my local GM dealer back in Feb 2002 with only 50 miles on the clock. I've recently noticed that the parking brake, when applied, no longer holds the vehicle. The rear friction pads were changed at 20k and they still have at least 30% wear on them so I am told by the garage that just serviced it, but they were unable to adjust the p/brake and suggested that the whole rear brake assembly would need dismantling to get at the parking brake to see if the shoes need replacing. Is that correct? I changed the rear pads myself Jan/05 - my average annual mileage is 10k - I'm not a total novice at car maintenance (I have taken a few engines apart and rebuilt them) I'm just not familiar enough with this beast, and there's few folks who know anything about them over in the UK because they're as rare as hen's teeth in these parts! ; -) Many thanks in advance for any assitance you can give.
