I had a simalar problem with 1 of my many chevys. Does it needd to go out farther or change the angle? If it needs to go out farther then its prob the wrong starter, find out what year the block is and go from there, its probably a 350 4 bolt main block, if so it will say 010 on the last 3 numbers in the casting behind the driver side cylinder head. If the angle needs to be changed then of course you need to have the flex plate cover off, You can buy a starter shim gauge and shims at almost any auto parts stores, autolite starters come with the kit. It takes patience to shim a starter, gauge it and shim as needed, dont be afraid to cut a shim in half to get it just rite. You will have to remove and install the starter a few times or more. Good luck, Rod
