2008 Chevy Malibu temp gauge and check engine light

2008 Chevy Malibu 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

the temp gauge stopped working stays on cold and the check engine light came on also the radiator fans ran constantly I disconnected battery and the gauge operated properly and the light went out after that went to autozone to check for codes none found waiting for problem to occur again
could you also give the location of the gauge sending unit and the coolant temp sensor

You erased all the computer memory and then you went to AutoZone to read them. It's not going to work that way.

It sounds like you may have a temp sensor issue but deleting all the self diagnostic info is not the way to find out.
