2001 Chevy Malibu 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 114000 miles
A couple weeks ago the check engine light came on, on my 2001 malibu ls, The code was 1404. I reset the computer and 2 days later the check engine light came on again with the same code 1404 for the egr valve. I purchased a new egr valve and installed it. After 2 days of driving the check engine light is back on with the same 1404 code. Could I have installed a defective egr valve or is their another problem with this car that could be causing this problem?

There is a Gm doc.
01-06-04-018A: Intermittent Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) and PCM DTC P1404 (Recalibrate PCM)
You'll have to get that done at the dealer most likely,
but also I have seen where the EGR port going through the intake manifold gets clogged.
And it is possible that the EGR is not performing as it should, did you buy it from a dealer or auto parts store?
