you can damage the cylinder head gaskets by overheating engine. does it blow white smoke from the tail pipe?

i don't think so. last time i started my car i poured water down the radiator and the heating light turned off but the engine light stayed on. i'm sure no white smoke blew out the tail pipe tho, would it help if i posted a picture of something? if so, what should i take it of?

Do i also need to get a new water pump or radiator?

Sorry I'm kinda car illiterate

you must take car to a shop and have the system pressure tested to find out where the leak is.
