I have a 1964 impala ss with an 283 with air conditioning. I have discovered a leak in the front passengers floor board which smells of anti freeze and suspect it is the heater core. What do you think? And if you agree, where is the heater core on my 64 and how would I go about replacing it?

First check the hose clamps on the lines going into the firewall. The heater core is located on the passengers side behing wha tlooks like a big black housing. You will have to disconnect the heater control wires controlling the air flow. Disconnect the eectrical connections. The cover should be held on with clips. Before terying to remove after you have the heater core exposed make sure the system is drained so anti freeze does not run into the car. Disconnect the hoses on the firewall and remove. Mark them so you know which one goes to the top. It takes a little work working the heater core out. Be careful making sure everything is disconnected that needs to be. Reinstall in reverse order, make sure all the controls ar out of the wauy when installing.
