Engine Performance problem
2004 Chevy Impala 6 cyl 54000 miles

We have a 04 impala that will be fine for a while but at some point just quits running while driving it.
Been to a couple of dealers with it. Have replaced Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, Crank Sensor, Battery and maybe some other things.

Get the car back and it runs then it happens again at an intersection or somewhere while driving it. Just quits running. Wants to start but will not. When this happens it never throws any kind of fault code.

This has been an ongoing problem and I'm fed up with the car and the dealers.
Anyone with similar problems or any ideas of what it could be?

Hi catatoo,

Had a similar problem 3 years ago. 2000 Impala LS 3.8 ltr V6. After 4 months, 13 surprise engine stalls, 3 trips to the dealer, and 1 trip to an auto repair shop, the problem was diagnosed as the ignition module. After it quit again, the crankshaft position sensor was replaced and the problem has not returned.

I noticed that you have replaced the crank sensor.
(I think I would determine if it was the crankshaft position sensor.) You didn't mention if the ignition module had been replaced, but you did say other things. If the ignition module was not replaced, it
is the next thing I would try.

Good Luck and hang in there. I know this kind of problem is so very frustrating.
