My dad came home yesterday and his car was smoking from under the hood and it smelled like burnt oil. When he opened the hood he noticed that his oil was completely dried up and there was no oil. When he back his car up he noticed that there was oil on the ground and apparently when he was driving it home the oil had sprayed back. There was oil everywhere but not on the engine. He seems to think it might be a head gasket but he is not sure. Someone also told him it could be that when he changed oil before that the filter double ringed itself. But there is no sign of any breaks or holes. He just cant find the cause. Please help. He is using my car and im going crazy haha.

I think one of several things happened here, one is that the oil filter wasnt tight enough, the oil pan nut wasnt tight enough, or the outer crankshaft oil seal is bad, which is located behind the crankshaft pulley
