The repair shop informed me that the port for the obd2 system has the pins in the wrong locations to be able to get a reading off of. How do I find out where the pin placement is supposed to be and does a specific pin have to be in a specific port ( just in case there is more then 1 wire in wrong port) Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have purchased an obd2 reader but do not want to use for fear of damage till I can fix this issue

If you bought the car new take it back to where you bought it. They must fix this for free. It's a law that these connectors must be functional. If you didn't buy it new you should take it to a dealer or go to the junk yard and find a car identical to yours and copy the wiring of the obd2 connector. A junk yard may let you take the whole connector with you--that may be easier.
