I have a 2001 Chevy impala and I have a tapping noise coming from it. When I first crank it up in the morning I will not hear it but when it warm up I will. It only do it when the car is idle. Now sometimes it will do it and sometimes it won't but it is getting on my nerves. Took it to the dealership and they told me that is normal wear and tear and the only way I could stop the ticking or tapping I would have to replace the whole motor. So what is it there is no light on or nothing what is making my car do this?

If its piston slap then yes its normal, but if its a lifter causing the noise that can be replaced. Take it for a second opinion and see what they say what the noise is

I went to get it check and he said either it was a bolt had back out or it was something thing in the cadillac converter that had drop and it was making that sound and was making it sound like it was coming from the motor.
