Just had a valve job done. The LT1 is still missing and quickly overheating. The missing or "popping and backfiring and sucking air back through the tailpipe is like a bad valve (that is why we had the valve job done) they found # 3 exhust valve gummy. After reinstallation we still have the same problem. Our machenic sayes that it might be the calaytic converters in that they may be clogged. Ihave not ever heard of this condition. Is this a posisible problem for the overheating and miss firing and back firing?

The LT1-LT4 are different animals as they cool backwards. They cool the head first and then the block. The converter col dbe clogged, but a vacuum test should let you know that. Also if I remember correctly there was a line that went from head to head in the back to get rid of air that should be checked for clogging as well. The AVITS (distributor) could be your problem as they were known to go bad eventually. I'd also check the water pump to see if the drive is anygood. The water pump drives off the cam and has a small gear, if this has revved high alot the gear may have broke. Or the shaft stripped out. Check that area carefully.
