2002 Chevy Cavalier OVERHEATING/POSS AIR BUBBLE

HAD A THERMASTAT INSTALLED PLUS WATER PUMP, VENTED THRU A SMALL BOLT BY REAR OF ENGINE. HAS NO RADIATOR CAP ON RADIATOR FILLED UP BY USING THE OVERFILL CONTAINER. RIGHT NOW IT RUNS AT 195 DEGREES BUT EVERY SO OFTEN I RED LIGHT COMES ON (BOX W/WAVY WATER LINE INSIDE) AND THEN IT BECOME A LITTLE HARD TO START BUT IT COME TO LIFE WHEN WE CRANK IT UP FOR A FEW MINUTES. WE HAVE HEAT THRU THE HEATER INSIDE THE CAR.I'M THINKING IT MIGHT STILL BE AN AIR BUBBLE INSIDE IF SO HOW DOES IT GET REMOVED, ALL YOUR HELP WOULD BE GREATLU APPRICATED, THANKS.

The red light is the low coolant warning light. There's a sensor located at the bottom of the overflow tank, it might need replacing. Mine would come on even when the coolant was full. When the overflow tank coolant level falls below the top of the sensor, the light comes on. It's not an indicator of overheating.

If you think air might be getting into the system, you can try getting a new pressure cap for the overflow. As long as your temp guage reads around the 195 mark, you shound be good.

Hard starting indicates something else. Might check the plugs and the usual stuff.
