I have 1999 chevy cavalier with about 140,000 miles on it. The battery light came on and on the way to work one day. I made it to work, and the car started up fine after work, but died on me on the way home. Radio would still come on. Took the battery to be tested, battery was fine. Took the altenator in to be tested, it failed, so replaced the altenator. Car ran fine for about 5 days. At which time the battery light came back on and the car died again. After sitting for a while it will start back up fine, but will not run more than 30 minutes. Went ahead and replaced the battery and checked all connections. Now the car seems to run fine, but the battery light comes on when NOT accelerating. Whenever I accelerate the battery light turns back off. but the moment I am not accelerating it comes back on. Any idea what my problem might be???

Sounds like the voltage regulator in the altinator is going bad. Check your connections at the altinator. Then take a voltmeter and check voltage at battery with car running. should be between 13.0 and 14.0 maybe slightly higher. then rev the engine with voltmeter still attached and see how much the voltage changes it should not change to much.
