I think that I need to replace my thermostat because my car just started running hot this morning. It was 10 degrees out side this morning. The cooling fan runs but also the temp gauge has always stayed just a little past the half way mark. But my question is when I was looking for the thermostat, I is not were I have been use to. So if i'm looking at the engine head on, it would be on the left correct?

The thermostat is located in the lower radiator hose on the 2.2L engine

I have a 1997 cavalier to. To me it seems like, well for what I've seen online that the 97 cavalier specifically doesn't necessarily run hot but the temperature gauge is super sensitive. Most cars stay in about the same spot on the dash in normal running temperatures. But the fan comes on at 220 degrees in this car and by then your past half way. Even knowing this it still bothered me that my temperature gauge went past half way so I rewired my fan and turn it on when it gets to operating temperature. It no longer appears to run hot. I know this isn't what you were asking but felt id share it lol
