1996 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

Ok. A little while ago my car wouldn't start. I thought the way it was acting that it was my starter. I could turn the key and the lights would come on, but when I tried to turn it over I get nothing, no sounds or even a hint of it wanting to start. Though I could short the terminals on the siloniod (sorry for spelling) and have it start with no problems. So I thought I'd just change the starter and it still did the same thing. I was instructed to replace the starter relay on the car, but I'm having trouble finding this relay. If there is such a thing, can some one please give me a hint to find it. Or if there is anything else I should check on.

Just to give more info:

I have a 96 Chevy Cavalier with a 2.2 engine

Your starter solenoid acts as the relay in this vehicle. I would concentrate my effort into the blue boxed parts; namely the ignition fuse inside the fuse box under the hood, the ignition switch (not where the key goes in, that is

but this. This is connected to the key switch.

If that is working, then it will be your neutral safety/clutch switch
