what makes a car overheat or run hot. i changed the water pump,radiator,and thermostat. when i open the radiator i can see the fluid going up and down then it spills out and the tempture gauge is not workin

it could be your radiator cap as that is the most neglected part on a cooling system. If te temperature guage doesn't work how do y ou know it's running hot? You should fill your system up and the add coolant to your coolant bottle. If your system is working right it will force the air out when youget warm and when it gets cool it will suck coolant back in to get rid of all the air in the system. you should also run a 50/50 mix of anti freeze/water.
