I have a 92 caprice and the belt shred. The first time it broke we just went on ahead and replaced the belt. The next day it shred again. This time we noticed the power steering pulley was bent and cracked so we replaced that and then again the belt. It's been a couple weeks now and a little less than half of the belt has been shred off. I looked at all the other pulleys, and in can't see any problems with any of them. We did notice that the air pump is loose, so I wanted to know if that could have something to do with the shredding of the belt. If not what else should I be looking for?

If the air pump is loose it should be tight in the brackets and against the engine. You may have a broken bracket causing your problem. It can be removed and taken to a weld shope and welded back to gether if you can't find one. All of the pulleys should be aligned with each other. You can check this by a straight edge ruler ifyou have one. Also check your belt tensioner as it may be worn or not keeping the belt tight.
