Engine backfire when shifting to second at redline
1996 chevy z28 camaro, 97000 miles 350. Hey guys, great site! My trans shifts fine and the car idles fine, but when i floor it and it gets up to redline in first, it shifts and backfires, rpms drop and black smoke comes out the tailpipes. after like a second, 2nd gear kicks in and it's fine from there. thanks:)

When you floor it you're getting an overload on one or multiple cylinders. Check your C02 sensor and your spark plugs and wires. Start there and let us know what you find!
