Well, a p1187 code can mean two different things. Is your engine diesel or gas powered?
This code in a diesel is a low voltage reading on the EOT (Engine Oil Temp.) sensor.
This code in a gas engine is a shorting or a low voltage signal in the bank two oxygen sensor. In this case check for any burnt or worn out wires for that o2 sensor.

BTW--make sure it is a P1187 and not a p1189..
