Hello:

They had the car on the lift and showed me that one of the front wheel and suspension could be moved up and down a bit. They said that this indicates a problem with the front strut mounts (too much play in them). They said it was for both front wheels. I was surprised I would have a problems because the car has low mileage

How much up & down movement of the wheel when it is on a lift is typical. Is what I described a concern or could this just be inventing a problem?

Thanks. -David

I thought it was just me until I read this, had to have mine replaced at 18000, get it looked at, it is a concern. I wonder how common it is for 2009 aveo's.

My fiance took my car 100 miles away yesterday to look at a new car for him. He decided to try to help me out and get the oil change. Similar to what the previous person said when they jacked up the car the mechanic said that the car was "built wrong" and "missing a piece" and that the strut is messed up and there is way to much play and you should not be able to move your wheel with your hand. He tried to refuse to let my fiance drive the car 100 miles back home because it was "extremely unsafe" he said the car will easily flip and this car should NOT be driven. My Aveo is a 2009 sedan automatic with 15,000 miles. I am pretty annoyed since this car is so new and I am having so many problems with it. I think that this problem also probably is why my front tires are ruined after 10,000 miles and why my air pressure light comes on every other day.
The car is now in the dealership and I am waiting to see what they do.

I recently got a 2008 Chey Aveo with 31000 miles on it. I took it to have the front end check for allignment. The tire dealer told me that the front strut mounts are moving when he has the car in the air. He said to call the dealer to find out if it was still under warranty. I called the local dealer and the service tech said that it was a common problem and not to worry about it. Well I am worried.

My father actually works for GM, when taking it to a well trusted dealer we are assured that although the struts are moving in the air its because they expand when it is jacked up. It is a "common problem" that is not really a problem. If it were to become worn down like it can happen a lot that is when problems arise but if they are just moving that is just typical of the way the aveos are made, its not a safety issue or a defect.
