I've got a 07 Grand Am SE 3.1l V6 and today when I was going to an appointment my car made a loud noise and wouldn't drive. I immediately shut the car off to avoid a bigger issue, and when I turned the car back on it started up fine, idles fine, but when I shift into Drive, Neutral, or Reverse it will make a loud grinding noise and will not move. There are no visible problems from the engine down or just skimming underneith. The car is in a very bad spot to do any kind of work on it. Waiting for someone to help me move it.

Do they often go bad suddenly? I've had absolutely no problems with my transmission since I got the car 2 years ago.
