The car will run great half of the time without any issues, but the other half of the time it will refuse to idle I have to keep giving it gas or it dies. It will run very rough while i'm giving it gas and it will blow black smoke.

If you see black smoke, it's getting too much fuel. Many things can cause this. Has you checked to see if there are any trouble codes stored in the computer?

I took it up to a mechanic/friend that was able to read some codes off of it, There was one code for the knock sense which he was able to clear and it didn't come back. But then there was a 100 or a 101 code that he was unable to clear.

OBD1 trouble codes are 2 digit numbers. I'm not sure about the ones you gave me. Also, I need to know the engine size.

As far as the issue, I really think either you have a bad coolant temp sensor, bad fuel pressure regulator or a bad injector that is dumping fuel.
