Car jerks then stops rolling in reverse

My 07 ford fusion has began making a terrible breaking/grinding noise when I put it in reverse and rolled back after a few feet. It has now begun to do this in neutral when rolling backwards. The vehicle jerks a couple times then stops itself completely whether in reverse or neutral rolling backwards. When it did this the first time a few days ago, thick black fluid was found (not a large amount, just a line) where the vehicle was parked and smoke began rolling out from underneath the car. The vehicle goes in to gear just fine, both drive and reverse and has not problems while driving shifting gears.

Yep I found the shoe was metal to metal causing the noise. Thanks for your help you guys are great.
