I have a 2001 saturn sc1 with about 130k miles on it. About 500-1000 miles ago the oil light started blinking randomly on and off. I took little note of it until recently when I finally got around to putting oil in. I let the car sit for about a day, and when I started to drive it the car could not accelerate well past 2000 rpm and at that point it made a weird clinking noise. As I tried to accelerate faster, the clinking got faster. Finally I was driving down the road and suddenly the noise drastically changed kinda sounding like I was dragging something on the road. This continues for maybe 15 seconds at the most until finally all the dashboard lights came on and the engine shut off. I tried to start it again, but the car is dead. What could be wrong?

So are all the dash lights bright when you turn the key to the start position? The engine may have seized?

I think it might have to do with the alternator belt of some sorts or something, no idea. I don't recall if the lights lit up, the car is currently locked up at a gas station.

See if the belt broke or the belt tensor lost tension? Also check about the lights?
