My father paid $140 to have his brake problem checked at the local Cadillac dealership. They could find no problem.

The brakes sometimes make a rubbing noise and continue after going until hitting and letting up again. It also has a little jerk sometimes when taking off or stopping. I know on my Acclaim that the dealership had to turn the brakes or something when I had that hanging up happening. The car moves abruptly to the side when driving down the freeway and running over a rough spot. The noise underneath can get quite loud at times.

I worry that an incorrect analysis was made and something may be seriously wrong. If you can help, I will be more than willing to make a donation; but dad has already spent $140 for no help.

WELL THE FIRST THING I WOULD SAY TO DO IS LOOK FOR ANY CODES PROVIDED BY YOUR CONSOLE. FIRST INSERT THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND TURN IT TO THE ON POSITION, YOU DO NOT NEED TO START THE CAR. SIMULTANIOUSLY PRESS AND HOLD THE OFF AND UP WARMER BUTTONS ON YOUR CONTROL PANEL FOR THREE TO FIVE SECONDS AND RELEASE THEM. THIS SHOULD BRING UP YOUR CURRENT AND HISTORY CODES STARTING WITH THE PCM. NOW HAVE A PAPER AND PEN READY. AFTER YOU WRITE DOWN THE CURRENT CODES, IT SHOULD HAVE A LISTING FOR TROUBLE ON THIS ISSUE. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH EITHER WARPING OF A ROTOR OR AIR PRESSURE IN THE LINES AND THE CALIPER IS STICKIN'. ALSO IT IS KNOWN TO BE ABS ISSUES THAT CAUSE THIS. PULL THE CODES TO GET OFF TO A GOOD START ON THESE ISSUES AND OTHER ONES YOU MAY HAVE.
