1993 Cadillac Seville Heater Core removal

How do I open the heater core box? I've removed the glove box and the lower panel under the glove box. I see it looking at me but I don't see any way to open or remove it.

What does the cowl cross-tower brace look like?

Is it the 2" pipe running across in front of the heater box or the little rod on top that looks like an actuator rod or is it something else?

I hope it isn't the big pipe. I can't even feel the end of it in the middle of the car.L
