The driver side heated seat (bottom) is not working. Dealership said the element has gone out to the tune of $300. How hard is it to replace? Is there a manual to show you how to get it out and replace with a new one? Can I buy and element online instead of going to dealership? Or is it too much of a pain to replace and let them handle it?
Thanks,
Caddie

If you are good at upholstery work. Having done seat heater repairs on various cadillacs, it is not fun work. Yea, you might be able to save a few bucks, but your chances are that you will do more damage, or the seat won't look/feel right after the repair. The original element is integrated into the seat covers, and often times the replacement is just an element with some adhesive backing. You sometimes have to slit the old cushion padding and slip the new element in. There are several where I have not been satisfied with the finished product. If the element is sold as a cover, it is not as bad, especially the cushion, they come out pretty easy. The only hitch, is that it is probably secured to the seat pad with hog rings. The benefit with having it done, is that you have the labor warranty to go along with it.
