I have a 2004 CTS, the dealer said that I have a small leak in my gas tank and I should replace it. It cost at lot, nearly $2000.00. The reason I had it checked was that the warning light came on for tank. It happend once before and it was my gas cap not properly closed, I bought a new gas cap and the light went off after a couple of days. My question is,
Can fumes from the small leak enter inside my car and cause damage to my car and to my health?

I have a small leak in my gas tank

Is it actually leaking out raw fuel or its just fuel vapor?

I don't know if it's leaking raw fuel or vapor, I was told that when it was checked, it was filled with nitrogen, and smoke came out indicating a small hole.

The Evap system is leaking and its not being purge back to the engine to be reburn. Get it fix otherwise you'll fail the state emission/smog test. Just smelling fuel vapor can harm you
