Engine Mechanical problem
2004 Cadillac CTS 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

My check engine light came on the other day. The car acts like it wants to stall when I first drive it. There is also a noise coming from the engine. This only seems to occur in the low gears. I took it to a mechanic, that said I needed to take it to a dealer? Dealers are expensive. Any suggestions? Ideas on cost of repairs?

Thanks. The good part about the 3.6 is all the cam position sensors(there are four), as well as the actuator solenoids are interchangeable. This can rule out a faulty sensor, or confirm a path to go down. First, check the oill level, your description of rough run and noise could relate to low oil level, this would also cause cam position issues. If it is not reading on the stick, it is probably at least a couple quarts low. P0341 relates to bank 1 intake cam position performance. If you look at the profile of the front of the engine, bank one is the bank that sits further forward, I believe it is the rh(passenger) side. If you change the intake cam sensor with the exhaust cam sensor, and it was a sensor fault, the code will change most likely to P0366. Check the oil first, though.

I think adding oil worked. Thank you very much. You know what you are talking about.
