where is the oil filter in my 2001 cadillac catera

It is a cartridge type filter, in a housing on the lower left side of the engine block, slightly to the rear of the crossmember.

I did see aan aluminum cover with maybe a 1" embossed nut. I turned counter clockwise however didnt seem to want to come off unless its log. Was cold outside.

That is the oil filter housing, it should come loose. In certain circumstances the whole housing will rotate, instead of the cover, if it has been overtightened. The housing would need to be held with large pliers, or a strap wrench, or something. Just be sure not to crush the housing.

Thank you. I will try what you shared. Didnt really see a housing so I will look and will hold and again try to remove filter cover
