1999 Cadillac Catera 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 116000 miles

I need to order a timing belt, I have learned that there are 2 kits available early or late interference...which one do I use? can you tell by VIN one parts dept said I need a number somewhere in the engine but I do not know where to look...please help
